The Ultimate Guide to Permanent Makeup

How to get away with wearing no makeup this summer, by Nicole Sweetman-Rice.

It’s summer time, which means it’s getting hot and our makeup is getting sticky! Wouldn’t it be fantastic to go without any makeup at all? Or even better, have makeup permanently there when you wake up?

I went with Real Housewives of Toronto cast member Grego Minot to try out the latest permanent makeup technology at Toronto’s Crista Nicole Beauty; we wanted to see how we could achieve the benefits of makeup without the hassle of putting it on!

OMBRÉ BROWS

Ombré brows is a cosmetic tattooing procedure also referred to as powder or shaded brows. The tail of the brow is more defined and becomes more soft and pixelated towards the front of the brow. Ombré can create an ultra-natural effect with just a wash of colour behind the brows, or it can be more dramatic for those who want a contoured look. It’s all about layering!

The procedure is a two-step process: your initial appointment and a touch-up five to eight weeks later.

Healing

Healing time is about seven to 10 days. Your brows will appear darker and bolder for those days, which is completely normal. You’ll need to keep your brows dry from water and use an ointment daily until healed. Minimal flaking (if any) may occur during this time. The colour will settle and soften into a beautifully natural result once it’s healed.

How long does the treatment take?

The treatment time is two hours, which includes the consult and drawing. Each individual’s brow is carefully and precisely drawn on before beginning treatment.

How often do I need touchups?

Future touchups are recommended every one-and-a-half to three years.

What’s the difference between ombré and microblading?

“Unlike microblading, there are no solid lines or harsh edges in ombré brows,” says Crista Nicole, owner of Crista Nicole Beauty. “After eight years and over 15,000 brow treatments, I can confidently tell you that ombré creates the most natural healed results. It also ages nicer and you can achieve the same result with each touchup. If you are looking for the best long-term natural results, it’s ombré for the win.” she says.

VELOUR LIP TINT TATTOO

Velour lip tint tattoo is used to enhance the natural lip shape and colour. Who doesn’t want perfect, natural looking lips 24/7? Nicole customizes pigments to add definition to your lips and conceal imperfections based on your skin tone and personal preference.

Healing

Your lips will look more intense on the first day; like you are wearing lipstick. This look will soften as they heal and become a natural-looking lip tint within seven days. This is a very popular procedure among clients, which is achieved with minimal discomfort, and the results are great: just throw on some gloss and go!

How long does the treatment take?

Treatment time including consult, drawing and numbing is one-and-a-half to two hours.

How often do I need touchups?

Results vary depending on the individual, though two-to-five-year colour refreshes are typically recommended.

LASH ENHANCEMENT

Eyelash enhancement tattoo creates a subtle, smoky look that discreetly defines and frames the eye without being visible on the skin. A very thin line of colour is added directly in the lash line and is designed to create an effect of a darker and fuller looking eyelash line. It truly creates the illusion that the eyes are bigger and brighter! And when it’s healed, you can enjoy the benefits of swimming, sweating and going makeup-free, without losing that eye-popping definition!

Healing

You can’t wear eye makeup for about a week during healing. It is recommend to get a lash lift and tint a few days prior to the procedure if you feel uncomfortable going without eye makeup for those healing days. While healing, you may experience light flaking along the lash line.

How long does the treatment take?

Treatment time takes about 30 minutes. Nicole uses a gentle, ph-balanced numbing treatment that will keep you comfortable throughout.

How often do I need touchups?

Typically, touch up is recommended every two to five years for colour boosts.
