The Big Apple makes an unforgettable weekend getaway!
Take a break from your everyday life and discover Beautiful NYC! That’s exactly what I did with my daughter, Georgia. It was a Mother Daughter Trip we will never forget. Take a Friday to Monday off and you’ll find it’s the perfect quick getaway. Here are some tips to make the most of it:
- Plan ahead
There is always a great concert at Madison Square Garden, so we planned to go and see Billy Joel. He performs there once a month and tourists come from all over the world to see the Piano Man live! Plan your trip around the artist you love!
The musical theatre, theatre, opera and music choices are unbeatable and the theatre district cannot be missed. We went online and purchased tickets for three musicals. Check out reviews ahead of time and order from a reputable site. We used Ticketmaster.
- Take a bus, train or boat
Get a map of the city. We studied the subway before we went because it’s the quickest way to get around. We stayed near Times Square so we were close to the action and we could walk to the different theatres.
- Take a bike ride through Central Park
When the leaves change in the fall, it’s stunning! Venture through The Mall and Literary Walk and see the quadruple row of American Elms. There is always something to do or see. Central Park Zoo is free and the Sea Lion Pool in the centre of the Courtyard is a favourite for visitors.
- The Empire State Building is a must!
Located in the centre of midtown Manhattan, the Empire State Building offers unforgettable 360-degree views of the city and beyond. It’s a great way to start your day.
- Lunch in Little Italy
Choose any restaurant on Mulberry Street and enjoy authentic Italian food. We also did a little shopping at the Christmas in New York store that celebrates the holiday all year long.
- Take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry
It’s free and it operates every day! You’ll get a spectacular view of New York and the Statue of Liberty. You can also take the Liberty Island Ferry to Ellis Island and book a tour of the statue.
- The 9/11 Memorial
The 9/11 Memorial is a tribute to the past and a place of hope. We paid our respects and took time to honour the people who perished in the terror attacks on February 26th 1993 and September 11th 2001. Every name is engraved in bronze around the twin memorial pools.
- Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge
A stroll over the Brooklyn Bridge offers great opportunities for photos of the gorgeous skyline, New York Harbour and the Manhattan Bridge.
- Celebrate the spirit of the season with the festive decorations at Rockefeller Center.
Enjoy dining and shopping at its best and see Radio City Music Hall. The tree lighting this year will be on December 4th 2019. We might just return for that!!
