Beautiful Glasgow; A Mother-Daughter Trip of A Lifetime

How travel feeds the soul and rejuvenates your spirit, by Jennifer Valentyne .

Recently I took a lifelong dream vacation to Glasgow with my daughter, Georgia. I wanted to build memories that she will hopefully cherish for a lifetime. I’ve never seen her so excited about a trip and she definitely did her research before we left. We took an overnight flight, slept on the plane and hit the ground running.

Adventure Awaits!

We stayed at the budget-friendly Motel One and the Hop On, Hop Off Bus was a short walk away. The tour took us to many historical sites and attractions, including the University of Glasgow; founded in 1451 and rich in history, it was a fast favourite of mine!

Shopping therapy is a must on any vacation and Buchanan Street has absolutely everything you could ask for! We even bumped into friends and snapped a photo. It really is a small world! Georgia loves vintage clothing and she was thrilled when we happened upon a sale where we could pay just 10 pounds for everything you can stuff into a bag. Now that’s a deal!

Tea for Two ☕︎

Afternoon Tea is the perfect mother-daughter date and the Willow Tea Rooms, inspired by the designs of internationally renowned architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, is a must. It’s been open since 1903 and has now been restored to its former glory.

We were fortunate to be visiting Glasgow when the Pipe Band World Championships were happening and enjoyed an afternoon listening to the traditional sounds of Scotland.

Highland Getaway 🏔

Glasgow is the gateway to everything in Scotland and it was so easy to take a tour from George Square and travel through the beautiful highlands. Glencoe, with its waterfalls and thatched cottages, was definitely a highlight. Visiting the dramatic ruins of Urquhart Castle overlooking Loch Ness was a breathtaking experience that almost seemed surreal.

We may have checked Glasgow off the bucket list for now, but it’s going right back on because we will definitely return. The city slogan says “People Make Glasgow” and they truly do. We met some of the friendliest people in the world.

Travelling to other parts of the world feeds your soul and breaks you out of your comfort zone. Figuring out the lay of the land builds confidence in your ability to adapt to any situation. Experiencing and understanding different cultures helps with better communication in any situation and it will inspire you in so many ways!
