4 Ways to Take Your Hair From Day to Night

4 great looks that take you from day to night in style

Here are four helpful tips and great looks to get you ready for your events in record time!

Why are there never enough hours in the day? We’re always running from work meetings to dinner with friends and the barely-there hours seem fewer and fewer.

Sleek & Low

Celebs like Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé have all rocked the sleek and low pony on the red carpet at one point or another. It’s a classic look, allowing you to serve up nothing but glam. Pair it with a stunning makeup look: perhaps a bold red lip or a sexy, smoky eye. It’s simple, yet powerful, but most importantly: easy to do. Start by flat ironing your hair from roots to ends (or not, if you want to work with your natural texture on the ends), focussing on the hair closest to the scalp. Part your hair to taste and, using a boar bristle brush, brush your hair smooth and taut at the centre nape of your neck. Use an elastic to secure.

Stylist Tip: DART by R+Co. is a quick and easy stick that will help keep fly-aways at bay. It’s like a mini-deodorant stick that you run along your hair from the part down. It’s also super tiny, so you can keep it in your bag for touch-ups on the go!

Princess Bun

Why is it called a princess bun?
Two words: Meghan Markle. It’s her go-to look and no wonder! It simply goes with everything. From royal engagements with Prince Harry, to Wimbledon for BFF Serena Williams’ match, and day-to-day meetings and errands, Meghan has rocked this look here there and everywhere. Her signature? Leave a strand or two of the bangs out to soften and romanticize the look. Just be sure to take a minute to polish the final look so it doesn’t just resemble a messy bun you might wear on a casual Friday at the office. If executed properly, the princess bun is the quick change you need to take your look from day to night.

Stylist Tip: Use a light-weight workable hairspray like Fix Anti-Frizz hairspray by L’Oreal Professional to tame and manage any frizz or fly-aways. It gives great brushable hold without becoming sticky or overpowering.

Root Touch-Up

No time for colour or highlights? No problem!

Today’s beauty leaders offer up a wide variety of “get-by” options to use until you find the time to get to the salon. One of my faves is the Color Wow Root Touch-Up. It lasts all day and is great for hiding extensions or just adding some depth to your hair by shadowing the root and adding colour on the scalp to make it appear fuller. Spending time with family and friends is important, so tap that root touch-up and postpone your colour one more week! Just make sure you have an appointment with your stylist locked down early—or you’ll be donning your own tinsel this holiday season!

A Little Glitter

‘Tis the season for glitter roots! If executed properly—this quick trick can be a simple way to take your daytime ‘do to nighttime shine! Try sticking to the basics—silver and gold. Use a bit of hairspray, pomade or paste along your part to make it sticky and ready to receive the glitter. Dip a small makeup brush into the glitter and paint along roots sparingly. A little goes a long way!
