10 Things to know about Cellulite and the Cellfina Treatment

Dimples are adorable, but not on our backsides! Cellulite is a common concern for many people, and there are many treatment options available. Here are answers to commonly asked question

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is caused by irregularities and small bands of tissue in the superficial fat layer under the skin. Other things that can affect the appearance of your legs are extra skin, stretch marks and irregular fatty pockets. Interestingly, the fat pattern, or matrix, of a woman is different than that of a man, and women are more prone to experiencing the “orange peel” appearance of cellulite than men.

Does weight gain or loss affect cellulite?

Not only does it affect the appearance of cellulite, weight gain or loss can affect any treatment done on the body. As little as 10 pounds either way can make a difference, so it is important to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle in order to maintain your long-term result from any treatment. NO treatment, surgical or non-surgical, is a replacement for good health and exercise.

Do topical cellulite treatments work?

Not yet. We wish that creams, lotions and potions could give significant or long-term results in the treatment of cellulite. But there are new products coming out all the time and our fingers are crossed for the future for a great product that will work well with treatments like Cellfina to further smooth the fine wrinkles of the buttock and thighs!

What is Cellfina?

Cellfina is a minimally invasive procedure that physically snips the tiny bands of tissue that cause the puckers and dents of cellulite. This releases the puckers that appear on the skin and gives an overall smoother appearance to the buttock and thigh area—especially in clothes such as white pants or yoga pants.

How long does surgery take and do I need an anaesthetic?

The Cellfina procedure is done with local anaesthetic so you are awake for the procedure and can drive home afterward. The procedure itself takes approximately one hour to perform and recovery time is 48 hours. It is advisable to avoid exercise and wear a supportive garment for one week post-treatment. Generally, pain is minimal and is well treated with Tylenol or Advil as well as ice packs for comfort.

How long does Cellfina last?

Currently, three-year post-operative data is showing continued high satisfaction with the results. Five-year data is coming soon.

When will I see results?

Results can be appreciated within a few weeks, with final results being noticeable at approximately six months post-procedure.

Does anything else work?

Because cellulite is often not the only problem noticed on the buttocks and thighs, combination therapies and treatments can often be done together. For instance, delivering Radio Frequency (heat and energy that stimulates collagen re-growth) in the buttock or thigh can help with loose and wrinkled texture of the skin that Cellfina does not treat. Two birds, one stone!

Is there any scarring with these procedures?

Because there are only tiny needles used during the treatments, after the expected bruising and swelling has subsided, there is no scarring left behind.

What is the cost?

The average cost of Cellfina treatment is approximately $5,000-$6,000, depending on the number of areas and time needed to complete the treatment.
